Stonehenge, Avebury and Lacock

Bath from £440

The joint UNESCO Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site designation recognizes the importance of  these two Wiltshire locations. The iconic giant standing stone circle at Stonehenge is the centrepiece of an extensive prehistoric ceremonial landscape including a processional avenue, a sacred river, a feasting site, and groups of burial mounds.  Breathtaking discoveries have been made here by archaeologists in the last few years, and you will hear the latest theories.  Avebury’s large stone circle set within a massive ditch and bank also lies at the heart of a landscape rich in prehistoric remains.  We can enter a stone-chambered Neolithic burial mound, and see the largest prehistoric man-made hill in Europe before driving up a processional avenue lined with standing stones to the heart of Avebury.  Passing through the pretty thatched village of Sandy Lane we pause to look around the conservation village of Lacock.
